For Labor Day weekend, we decided to take an extended vacation to San Diego. We left Wednesday night and return on Monday night. Bryan choose to take a couple days off so we could really have some fun together at the beach and visiting my grandma. We spent a couple days at the beach in Carlsbad, some time at my grandma's house, riding the trolley around San Diego, seeing the sights and visiting the tidepools. We had a great time on our little family vacation.
Jenn's Grandma's house:
Bryan & Colby doing the traditional wagon ride at my grandma's house. My grandma lives on a hill so it is fun to ride the wagon down it.
This video is of part of the wagon ride.
After visiting with my grandma, we headed for an afternoon at the beach.
Colby & Jenn "swimming" in the water. The ocean water was a warm 75deg when it usually doesn't get above the high 60s. We were loving the heat wave.
Colby loved driving his truck over the sandcastles Bryan built for him.
Grandpa came by the beach for a little bit and played with Colby. They had fun jumping the waves and looking for sandcrabs.
FULL DAY OF RIDING THE TROLLEY & SEEING THE SIGHTS IN SAN DIEGO:
Despite the looking on Colby's face, he was really excited for his 1st trolley ride around town. Just waiting for the trolley near Qualcomm Stadium. (starting point)
Our first stop was Old Town Historic Park in San Diego. We had a good time checking out all the old stuff & buildings. Colby really liked our lunch in the park.

Loving the trolley ride. Colby called it a train.
Started at the Star of India & Maritime Museum. Just checking out the ships at port before walking to Seaport Village.

We walked along Gaslamp Quarters and then walked up to Horton Plaza. After the mall, we caught a trolley to take it all the way down to the border.
At the US/Mexico border, San Ysidro. It looked like Mexico. We felt like outsiders because everyone seemed to be starring at us.
After riding the trolley back up into town we returned to Old Town for dinner at Coyote Cafe and then headed back. It was a long day of sightseeing and walking. Colby had a blast riding the trolley/train, he fell asleep on the ride home.
CARLSBAD BEACH:
We spent the day at the beach and then stopped over at my grandma's house in Vista & had dinner there.
just happy to be at the beach. When you now ask Colby where he lives, he says "at the beach."

It is hard to tell from these pictures but we saw 3 dolphins swimming along the shore. They were just barely past where people were swimming.

BALBOA PARK:
We spent part of a day walking around Balboa Park. The architecture was amazing, beautiful museums, and parks. The following are random pics from our day there.

This video is of the largest outdoor organ in the world. We sat and listened to a concert for a few minutes.
TIDEPOOLS:
We went to the tidepools at Cabrillo National Park, which is on Point Loma. It was fun to walk around and see all the sea life.
Looking at the tidepool creatures.
